Ultracor Awarded NASA SBIR Contract

January 31, 2010. Livermore, California. Ultracor, a market leader in engineered composite honeycomb design and fabrication, announced that it has been awarded a NASA Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) contract to begin development of a silicon-carbide ceramic honeycomb for advanced flight structures. Based upon its flight heritage in carbon-carbon ceramic composites, Ultracor proposed a honeycomb structure to be infiltrated with SiC vapor to produce a material resistant to heat up to 2700F while retaining its structural integrity and strength. The material should be a candidate for hypersonic flight structures.
